We need His power
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you.”
It is my deep conviction that as the people of God we need more than ever to allow the Holy Spirit to have free reign in our lives. If our hearts are to be revived afresh with passion for God and the Church set aflame by the Spirit’s blaze we will need to put aside our ‘talking’ and lean on the power of God. Paul puts it this way;
“My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power.” 1 Cor. 2:4,5
In this time in history we call the ‘Information Age’ we have become well adjusted to thinking that information = experience. In other words, knowing about God and the Church means we have the experience of the same. This could not be further from the truth.
It is essential that you and I experience the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives each day and surrender ourselves utterly to His desires. This ‘complete surrender’ to Him is not widely apparent within the Church although there are definite signs that people are beginning to realise that Church is not what God intended it to be and there is a different way forward based upon friendship with God because of all that Jesus has done! This is our message of hope!
Before we travel any further, looking at the nature and work of His Spirit I have written out most of the statements found in the book of Acts which underline the activity of the Holy Spirit within the early Church.
It would be worthwhile reading them through before going any further. ACTIVITY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
