Learning To See!
In August Jenny and I travelled by invitation to Great Wenham to attend the wedding of a young couple who we have known for a short time only. However, we have known the parents of the bridegroom for some years now and enjoy fellowship with them on a fairly regular basis. We have not attended many weddings since being in England and were quite excited at the prospect. We were to be meeting up with friends as well, and this made our anticipation even more enjoyable! The old church building was packed with friends and family as the air of expectation grew around us in preparation for the arrival of the bride! The music suddenly burst into life and the bride and father entered the gathering and walked down the aisle. She looked radiant and so alive in anticipation of being with her bridegroom. The two stood at the front facing each other and all eyes were upon them. When time came for them to take their vows the Lord opened my eyes to see beyond the visible to something exceedingly precious in another realm! I saw with the eyes of my heart the anticipation and excitement of our Heavenly Bridegroom - Jesus; as He stood watching over His beautiful, virgin Bride with jealous love. The fire of radiance in His eyes and the overwhelming affection towards His Lover Bride. He was so focussed on her lovliness and pulsating life! She was draped in beauty and matchless purity declaring her love to her Husband. It was an awesome sight! The young couple will always remind me of the call to be ever looking to Him. We are married to Jesus and to no other! May we all, as His, long to walk in and behold that other invisible dimension, and see Christ in His Majesty and splendour - our Bridegroom. This will sustain us in the days to come and bring about a richness of sharing and life within the Body of Christ. And as Paul once said, "I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy; for I betrothed you to one husband, so that to Christ I might present you as a pure virgin."
May that day come soon! John |
